Don Falkos is a storyteller, storytelling coach, workshop leader, actor, and locksmith. Born and raised in Aurora, Illinois, Don attended the University of Illinois where, after years of diligent study and months of tearful pleading with professors, he obtained a degree in Classical Archaeology and Classical Civilizations. Don now lives with his wife and son in Madison, Wisconsin. He is a board member of the Northlands Storytelling Network (www.northlands.net).

Don's stories include personal and humorous tales, scary and creepy stories, and uplifting tales that encourage the heart, the soul, and the mind. He tells a variety of folk tales, fairy tales, and stories from cultures around the world. He tells a series of Aesop's fables that expose children to concepts such as honor and respect. Don also has several programs of Bible stories. His style ranges from serious to humorous, from personal to traditional, from quiet to downright boisterous.

Storytelling Programs Include:

Don uses fables and folk tales to illustrate important character traits such as fairness, responsibility, caring, and respect. This fun program of participatory stories is designed specifically for children, although adults enjoy it too. (30-45 minutes)
In this program, Don tells the stories from the first eleven chapters of Genesis - from "Creation" to "The Tower of Babel." His dynamic presentation brings to life stories that are not as familiar as they once were, even to avid churchgoers. (40 minutes)

This program includes stories spanning Genesis chapters eleven through twenty-five. These stories relate the life of one of the most revered men in the history of the world, a man whose faith in God is legendary. (50 minutes)

This program is comprised mostly of original stories, which are scary in a chilling rather than gruesome or terrifying way. Many of the stories from this program can be found on Don's CD, The 1956 Chevy Bel Air and other chilling stories. (45-60 minutes)

Trees play many important roles in scripture. In this program, Don tells stories of trees throughout the Bible - from "The Tree of Life" in the Garden of Eden to "The Tree of Death" at Calvary. (30-40 minutes)

Here is an eclectic collection of traditional and original stories thematically tied together by the number three. (45 minutes)

If you can see it, you can tell it. In this workshop, Don guides participants through the process of developing a story - from reading it to telling it. Through games, exercises, and telling opportunities, elements of story and presentation will be explored with a strong emphasis on visualization - seeing the story clearly in the mind's eye. Participants will learn and tell a Bible story and acquire the tools needed to develop additional stories on their own. (various lengths) In this workshop, Don leads participants through a simple procedure for learning and telling a Bible story. Working individually and in small groups, participants will progress from hearing a story told to telling it in their own words, using imagery rather than memorization. (90 minutes)
In this expanded version of "Hear It! Picture It! Tell It!" various elements of story and storytelling will be explored in more depth. Participants will learn and tell a Bible story and acquire the tools needed to develop additional stories on their own. (3 hours)
Don provides instruction in a storyteller-controlled coaching procedure. Overall emphasis is on the positive things that the storyteller is doing. Participants will learn how to give and receive positive, constructive coaching. They will learn basic coaching principles and methodology. They will find they benefit as much from observing and being involved in the process of coaching others as by being coached themselves. (90 minutes)

Don offers a variety of coaching workshops ranging in length from 90 minutes to 6 hours. Participants will receive individualized guidance on how to improve their speaking skills, their stories, and their storytelling style. (various lengths)

Put your name in the hat for a chance to tell your story and receive guided group coaching. Don creates a welcoming, positive, and supportive atmosphere conducive to gentle, constructive coaching. He guides the coaching process with a practiced hand. You will benefit as much from observing and being involved in the process of coaching others as you will from being coached yourself. The number of participants to receive coaching will be determined by the length of the workshop. (various lengths)

This is a small group session in which each participant tells a story and receives guided group coaching. Don creates a gentle, supportive atmosphere and facilitates the coaching process. Participants will find they benefit as much from observing and being involved in the process of coaching others as by being coached themselves. The length of the workshop will be determined by the number of participants. (various lengths)
