Performances for Children, Families and Adults227 April Lane An Illinois Arts Council Roster ArtistFind out if your school / library / preschool Once upon a time, Sandi checked out a ventriloquism book from the library; she read it and then she practiced and practiced and practiced some more. VOILA! A CAREER WAS BORN! An Illinois Arts Council Artstour Roster Artist, Sandi Sylver and "the Girls" tour nationally, bringing talent, creativity and excitement to every performance. Vivacious and charismatic (and wacko-o as well!), she has a Story Bag chock full of Tall Tales, Folk Tales, World Tales and True Stories. Sandi is a true original, and brings performance art to new heights. Always educational as well as entertaining, the performances are highly interactive and guaranteed to make children, families and adults glad to have participated! Stories can be theme specific or eclectic; please contact Sandi for school and library program titles and fees. The real Stars of each show are "the Girls", three of the cutest Ventriloquist puppets ever! "Toodles" is a six-year-old-with-an-attitude, who tells riddles and jokes as well as stories. At most performances, she also teaches the audience the basics of Ventriloquism, and everyone leaves the show practicing "to talk for two"! When time permits, "Toodles" will stay after wards to give hugs and "high-fours" to the kids. For the youngest children, a Southern grandma puppet named "Mrs. Ida Know-Why" tells the story There Was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly, and she consumes all of the critters mentioned (but "nobody dies"--instead we say "oh me, oh my")! For older children and adults, she remains Southern, but her name is changed to "Mrs. Adelia Rose Honeycutt, of the Atlanta, Georgia, Honeycutts", and she becomes a philosopher, pontificator, and first-class whiner! Rounding out the trio, there is "Shari Cary", a teenager "from, like, LongGyland, like, in New Yawk, like, whatever", who is both a storyteller and rapper! Her adult show, "Stories and Songs of Life, Love and Laughter" features all three puppets, and showcases Sandi's self-penned stories from her adventurous life (example: at the age of 22 she took a 12-passenger freighter to Europe, and lived abroad for almost three years). This show is a featured listing in the greater Chicago directory, "The Best of the Best", for adult programming in public libraries for adults (one must be nominated for inclusion).

What People Are Saying..."You have the wonderful gift of being able to hold them in the palms of your hands during the performance, and part of that is a credit to your outstanding personality and the repoire you have with students. We look forward to having you again." "A Reno audience of children and parents now understands the reason for such wonderful reviews by the other libraries which have hosted this wonderful storyteller! Her first story was bi-lingual and it was a big hit--and the program just kept getting even better!" "WOW! What a program! Your presentation was superb; the audience didn't want to leave!" "We just caught your performance at Freedom Hall, and my wife and I are still trying to get the kids to sleep; they can't stop talking about your show. Performance art is a dying breed; thank you for keeping it alive." "...most inspired by your comment that you learned how to be a ventriloquist through a library book. What a wonderful example and motivator to get students to read!" --Venae McTavish, Parent, Maple Park, Illinois (email) |
